NHS funded IVF is not just a postcode lottery, it's a personal one.

Getting IVF or IUI on the NHS isn't guaranteed. In fact, finding out if you're even eligible can be a real challenge. That's why we built our handy NHS IVF Eligibility Calculator - so that you can find out, fast, if the NHS is a viable option for your fertility journey.

Lots of factors determine whether you can get NHS-funded fertility treatment, like IVF or IUI. Where you live also determines what treatment you can get - and how many rounds of treatment you can do.

It's (really) confusing. So at Fertility Mapper, we decided to make it simpler for you to find out whether or not you might be considered eligible for NHS-funded fertility treatment in England.

All you have to do is enter some basic details into the boxes below, and our calculator does the hard work for you. You'll get a personalised eligibility assessment emailed straight to your inbox. Easy.

About the Calculator

Like many within the fertility community, we grew frustrated with the NHS Postcode Lottery approach to fertility treatment. This approach means that where you live, as well as your personal circumstances, dictates what treatment you can receive. In itself, that's challenging enough - but if you've ever tried to find out whether NHS-funded treatment is an option for you, then you know another big painpoint is simply finding out if you're eligible, and what, exactly, is included in your treatment.

So, we've spent countless hours scouring local NHS sites, bringing together different eligibility criteria and policies into a single, searchable NHS fertility treatment database.

Because at Fertility Mapper, we believe it should be so much easier to find out what help you can expect from the NHS, based on your unique personal circumstances, when you're ready to start a family.

How does the calculator work?

First of all, we ask you for the postcode of the GP you are currently registered with so that we can match you to your local NHS integrated care board (ICB) in England. They're the ones who determine who is eligible for NHS-funded fertility treatment in your area, and what that treatment includes.

Next, we ask you some straightforward questions about you, your partner and your life together. These questions cover the main NHS eligibility areas:

  • Clinical factors - like your age, and whether you have any underlying conditions.
  • Lifestyle factors - this covers areas like whether you have ever smoked, and your body mass index (BMI).
  • Your fertility journey to date - this includes how long you've been trying naturally to conceive, and whether you've had any fertility treatment to date (including any you've paid for yourself).
  • Your family history - this section looks at whether you or your partner have children already, whether together or from previous relationships.

Using the answers you provide, our calculator, built on millions of data points, assesses whether your personal circumstances match the eligibility criteria of your local ICB.

Finally, we ask you for your email so that we can send you the results. We don't share your email or your results with anyone else.

Why use the calculator?

Well, for a start it can save you a lot of time. Secondly, you'll get a personalised assessment that outlines whether or not you're likely to be considered eligible, and what treatment looks like - for example, how many rounds of IVF the NHS funds in your region.

Please note: the results generated by the calculator are not a guarantee that you will get NHS-funded fertility treatment.

They're an estimate based on the answers you provided, matched against your ICB's policies. As a result, you should always speak to your GP about your eligibility.

However, with the results from the calculator, our goal was to ensure that you can go into that conversation more prepared and aware of what you may be entitled to.
